Bed Bug Products for Eliminating Home Infestations

Six Steps to Bed Bug Elimination
1. Immediately Call A Professional Exterminator

If you suspect bed bugs in your home, we strongly recommend contacting an exterminator for a professional inspection. Treating bed bugs with home remedies and store bought pesticides usually does little more than scatter the bed bugs deeper in the walls making them much more difficult to fully eradicate. The products below are meant to complement your exterminator's treatment plan, not replace it.

2. Bed Bug Proof Bedding Encasements
Bedding Encasements

Secure all bedding. An early infestation can go undetected for weeks or longer. Encasements take away their favorite hiding/breeding spots and protect your investment in mattresses. Don't throw away an infested mattress and risk spreading bed bugs to other neighbors. Encasements will starve to death all bed bugs already in your mattress/box spring.

3. GreenClean Dissolvable Laundry Bags
GreenClean Dissolvable Laundry Bags

Wash & dry everything possible prior to your first pest control treatment. Any bed bugs surviving treatment in your clothes will start an infestation all over again. GreenClean eliminates having to dispose of infested laundry or garbage bags. Don't risk spreading bed bugs around your home or building when trying to wash potentially infested items.

4. PackTite Portable Heating Unit
PackTite Portable Heating Unit

Heat treat all non-washable items. PackTite gets hot enough to kill all stages of bed bugs but not hot enough to ruin most items. Ideal for shoes, CDs, toys, dry-clean only clothes & more! PackTite is a great pesticide-free way to de-bug your personal belongings.

5. ClimbUp Bed Bug Monitor (Trap)
Bed Bug Monitors

Keep bed bugs from climbing into your bed or furniture and also monitor to make sure they are all gone after treatment. ClimbUp traps go under the feet of the bed and are too slippery for bed bugs to crawl through so they get stuck in the trap. Early detection means quicker and less expensive removal by your exterminator.

6a. BugZip Clothing Encasements

Securely store your cleaned or treated clothing. Don't return cleaned items back to the bedroom closet and drawers until after you are totally sure bed bugs are long gone. BugZip opens and closes like a suitcase and is ideal for the items you need to access on a daily basis.

6b. Clear Contractor Bags
Clear Contractor Bags

Contractor grade trash bags are recommended for storing cleaned and treated clothing that you do not need to access on a daily basis. Heavy duty 3 mil thickness resists tears and clear plastic material makes it easy to see inside. Keep items bagged until your bed bug monitors are free from bed bugs for at least a month.

Mattress Disposal Bags

Zippered vinyl mattress disposal bags are designed for use when disposing of bed bug infested mattress or box spring. Helps prevent spreading bed bugs through home or building while removing infested bedding.

Bed Bug

Bed Bugs 101: If you suspect you have bed bugs, the first thing you should do is encase all your mattresses and box springs. However, encasements will rarely completely get rid of bed bugs. If bed bugs are in your bed then they are most definitely elsewhere in the room like walls, furniture and closets. If an infestation has gone undetected for a few weeks or more, than it is very likely that the bed bugs have spread to any adjacent rooms where other people may be sleeping. This is how they spread so easily in apartment buildings, hotels and hospitals.

Unfortunately, there are no safe pesticides on the market today that have the ability to kill bed bugs reliably unless they are sprayed directly on the bugs. Additionally, pesticides do not kill any bed bug eggs waiting to hatch. Absent using very expensive vikane gas or thermal treatment, which do kill eggs, treatment for bed bugs will usually require multiple visits from a pest control professional. Usually, visits are scheduled about two weeks apart since that is about how long it takes for any eggs to hatch that weren't found during an initial visit. The ClimbUp monitors above will trap bed bugs as they climb on or off the bed. If you find one, then immediately contact an exterminator.

The reason that a bed bug infestation can go undetected for weeks is that many people do not react to bed bug bites initially. Everyone has different sensitivites to the bites. Some people will itch right away, some people will itch a few days later and some people will not itch at all until the bites become very frequent. When two people share a bed or bedroom that is infested, it is common that only one will notice itchy welts even though both people are getting bitten each night. For this reason, bed bugs frequently get misdiagnosed.

Early detection is the key to getting rid of bed bugs quickly. Encasements and monitors will allow you to detect bed bugs as soon as they enter your home. If you use a monitor then you will be able to catch live bed bugs to show to your landlord or exterminator. Monitors are also useful after treatment so you will know for sure if any bed bugs survived and attempt to feed on you at night. They will be caught in the trap before entering the bed so you can sleep peacefully knowing that you are not getting bitten by bed bugs anymore. If bites do persist after treatment and encasing your bedding, then you know that the bed bugs must be living somewhere in the bed frame itself.
