Adult Bedwetting? You’re Not Alone – A Story of Hope & Solutions

M.B. Shares His Story

An Unexpected Challenge

My story starts a few years ago when my life took an unexpected turn. I had been living in Australia for work, but I had to return to the United States far earlier than expected. On top of that, I had to navigate an incredibly difficult and painful personal situation. My life seemed to have fallen apart.

Fortunately, I had some kind people who were like family take me in and let me live in their home. The dust seemed to be settling a little bit on the frustration and chaos in my life until one morning I woke up soaking wet. I felt a mix of shock, surprise, and confusion. I hadn’t peed in a bed since I was a kid — this couldn’t be right. I was 35 years old at this point.

I remember washing the sheets and my pajamas and just kind of shrugging it off as a one-time thing. But less than a week later, I woke up soaked again. I knew that something wasn’t right. I was so embarrassed. I didn’t want to tell anybody.

I did some research online and found that stress and anxiety can sometimes lead to bedwetting. It made sense. I was going through one of the most challenging times of my life, and my body was clearly reacting.

I was hoping it would just go away, but the bedwetting continued. Three or four times a week I woke up in the middle of the night or early in the morning soaked. I was losing more sleep and was getting stressed out.

Struggling to Find Protection that Actually Worked

After a few weeks, I decided to try to find some kind of protection. I walked into a local pharmacy and bought the most expensive pull-on briefs they had. I thought these would work and I would wake up dry. Nope. Those overpriced pull-ons didn't do a dang thing. Another night of wet pajamas and bed sheets. My embarrassment kept growing. I still don't want to tell anybody.

I went back to the store, bought a different brand of pull-on, and purchased a pack of absorbent booster pads to place inside the incontinence underwear. But a few nights later, I had another accident, another embarrassing pile of laundry to do, and another wave of frustration. These products did not work at all. I was experiencing heavy bedwetting and I couldn't do anything to stop it seemed.

I continued looking around the local pharmacies and department stores and I found some tab style incontinent briefs at the one shop. These seemed like they would do the trick. They fit well and were very comfortable. They even helped keep me dry the first couple nights wearing them. But soon enough, I woke up to another soaked bed.

I had reached my breaking point – I was exhausted, angry, depressed and completely confused about all of it. Nothing was working. I did not have health insurance at the time, so I couldn’t see a doctor. It didn't seem like there was anything I could do. That’s when I finally decided to tell a close family friend about my situation.

How Opening Up to Others Led to Finding the Right Protection

The moment I started talking with my friend, I felt a huge burden lift off my shoulders. I don't know why I expected to be laughed at or mocked, as this was not her nature at all, but all she did was lend me a sympathetic and empathetic ear. I told her about the many wet nights and how I tried to wash the sheets when no one else was in the house so no one would know. I shared about all the money I wasted on incontinence products that didn't work. I don't know why I didn't share anything earlier, because it was really helpful. Now at least I wasn't fighting this battle alone.

That’s when everything changed. After our conversation, she decided to do research about incontinence and pointed me towards NorthShore. That is when I found MEGAMAX®.

I ordered some samples to see what size fit best. They were incredibly comfortable! Most of all they were extremely absorbent! I finally started waking up to dry pajamas and bed sheets. I was so relieved! I started getting good sleep again. They are such a good product that often I've had accidents at night and didn't even know until I changed out of them in the morning. That's no joke! They're also so comfortable that I've even forgotten I've been wearing them many times.

You Are Not Alone

I wanted to share this in hopes that somebody out there would read my story and know that they aren't the only ones who've gone through this. Here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. You are not alone. None of us should have to feel like we're struggling alone.

  2. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone. Sharing with my friend really changed everything. Not only was a load taken off my back, but she helped me find the right protection for dry nights

  3. The right products exist. It might take some time and research to find the right products, but MEGAMAX briefs were the best overnight protection for me.

I hope my story helps and encourages anyone facing a similar struggle. There is support, there are solutions, and you don’t have to navigate incontinence alone.
